My Mom Is Bringing Her Own Bags!

I'm so happy! My mom, a.k.a. Momasaur, just told me that she is now bringing her own bags to the store!

I never thought it would happen.

This Christmas, my sisters and I tried to convince her to stop using plastic bags, but she said she wouldn't. Her reasons: 1) bringing your own bags is embarrassing and 2) it's inconvenient.

Now, I understand reason 1. Momasaur lives on the south side of Chicago, where grocery employees (and other shoppers) don't regularly encounter crunchy types. In fact, during a visit to a store near her house, I nearly gave a bagger a heart attack once because I insisted that I didn't need a plastic bag for a single loaf of bread. He simply couldn't believe it.

Yep, I can see why bringing your own bag makes you stand out down where my mom lives, and I applaud her for having the courage to be different. She's really doing something cool.

Oh, and as for Momasaur's reason number 2, she has apparently realized that her reusable bags are actually MORE convenient than plastic ones. She says that it's easy to leave them in the car, and they can carry lots of stuff, prevent things from rolling around in the car, and don't dig into her hands since she can sling them over her shoulder.

It's official! She's a convert!

Yea for our relentless nagging! Lol! I am happy that she is bringing them! Oh, and I am going to buy some cloth bulk bags tomorrow just because you have inspired me...

Indeed. Like I said, I never thought we would convert her, but apparently our nagging was effective :)

As for grain bags, I have Ecobags and I really love them. I have five of them, but since I cook a lot (and buy a lot) it's almost not enough. I might buy more.

p.s. I'm so glad that you're commenting!
Congrats on converting your mom! I too had gotten strange looks from asking for no bags at stores. I've also simply removed my items from the bags they put them in when they don't listen to me (which happens way too often).

"Mamasaur" Love it! I call my my mom a "Momster" from time to time. I love your blog- I find it insightful as well as funny. I have been trying to become more conscious of my plastic use- I find your posts very helpful. Thank you.
