Happy Earth Day: Hail to the Snot Rag!

In celebration of Earth Day (and because allergy season is starting), I am officially giving up tissues!

From here on out I will exclusively be using a handkerchief for my boogs.

Actually, I won't technically be using a handkerchief, since I don't have one, but instead a purple bandana that a friend left at my house about two years ago (sorry, Tasha!). A light blue and pink bandana will also make it into the rotation when necessary.

Anyways, I'm glad I'm finally making this move. It's an important one that will help me use less paper and plastic and help me protect our lovely planet.

Praise be to the handkerchief!

I'm sure Tasha is thrilled that she's contributing to your green-ness :)

I love that you are doing this without even buying a hankie, proving that you don't have to spend any money to "go green." I did the same a few months ago, found a few old hankies in my dresser that had been converted to sachet pouches.

I admire you. This is a move I have not been able to muster the strength to make. Luckily, I do not have allergies so the only time I use tissues it when I have a cold. Like now :(

That's great! Switching to hankies was probably one of the toughest moves I've ever tried ... harder than giving up toilet paper, harder than taking PT to work, harder than switching from a diet of frozen convenience foods to a diet of stuff that I actually cook. Eventually, I gave up. I still use hankies on occasion, but for a cold, I had to go back to recycled tissue.

So I applaud you for going tissue free. You are a better woman than I, LLP!!

Congratulations. I gave up tissues a while ago. Similar to arduous, I found that it was a little difficult, especially when I got a cold. I found that when I have a cold I switch to my flannel hankies. I made mine out of an old nightgown. I seems to work well, it is able to soak up extra mucus and save my nose at the same time.

Can yo do a comment about the care and cleaning? Do you pre-wash? Well, duh. Think I answered my own question.
